This has been a pretty important issue to me lately, and one I believe more musicians and worship leaders in the church need to seriously consider.Jonathan Powershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04156698508552110185noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1530741222852255049.post-13488678559705930182010-08-13T20:36:29.026-07:002010-08-13T20:36:29.026-07:00Excellent article! We make disciples through our music. The youth pastor has her/his skits and silly ice-breaker games, the children's pastor has her/his scripture memory and puppet stories, the senior's pastor has her/his bingo game and southern gospel music, the senior pastor has her/his leadership books and sermon series, the worship pastor has her/his songs and instruments....but the goals of each of these (and the countless I didn't mention) are all the same - point people to Christ and mirror Christ to people!Carl Smithhttp://www.carlsmith.orgnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1530741222852255049.post-83302879852682799542010-08-13T08:56:05.666-07:002010-08-13T08:56:05.666-07:00John, Thanks for the post man! I even started at IWS saying, I'm going to be a worship leader, not a pastor...crap! We have no choice. The calling is severe and we don't have have the choice to take what we want. It is all or nothing and to refuse the call, well I just don't want to even think about that.

My first paper focused on nothing concerning the project, but my understanding of the pastoral nature of the worship leader calling. The funny thing is trying to get certain denominations to accept this notion of a worship pastor. In the PCA, PCUSA, RCA, etc. you have to have an M. Div. to be considered a "Pastor". However, I word assert that the pastoral nature of leading worship has more effect on the people than even the pastors sometimes, being that the pastor preaches for 15-30min. (if we are lucky) The worship pastor is ministering for the rest of the time, and in some extremely ethereal ways. (Art, Music, Film, Drama, Dance, Etc.) Ultimately, they say, "Do your thing, but we're not going to call you pastor." Its funny. The point is, that we are as you pointed out, accountable to the flock and to God.

So, pastor it is. I think next, I'm going to start running around saying, Da Bears will never win the Superbowl five years in a row, and see if the same thing happens!

Blessings man!

RichRich Van Voorsthttp://www.richvanvoorst.comnoreply@blogger.com
